The starting line for the Gateway to the Smokies Half Marathon lies at the corner of Depot and Main Streets in Waynesville, N.C., and from there runners head south along Main for the race’s first couple of miles. The green peaks of nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be visible all around as you run this sometimes hilly course, and the race finishes near the corner of Commerce and Depot in Waynesville’s Frog Level, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
