You’ll follow an out-and-back loop route at this race, which starts and finishes at the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat and, organizers say, is the only race of its kind — you’ll be able to race against a turn-of-the-century steam train, which will travel along the Connecticut Valley Railroad State Park Trail. The course will meander through the countryside around Essex, all the way to the Deep River Landing, where you’ll attempt to beat the train there. After that, you’ll head back toward Main Street for the race finish.
