The Desert Classic is a cherished Arizona tradition, inviting participants to the scenic Riverboat Village in Surprise for a half marathon or 5K race on January 27th. Notably, this event does not offer onsite day-of registration, emphasizing pre-race preparation with registrations closing early on race day morning. Runners opting for the half marathon must meet the age requirement of 14 years on the day of the race, ensuring a competitive yet inclusive atmosphere. Packet pickup is efficiently organized on the morning of the race, allowing participants ample time to collect their bibs and race shirts before heading to the start line. Both the half marathon and 5K boast 5-year age groups for awards, with all participants receiving a finisher medal to commemorate their achievement. The half marathon route is USATF certified, offering an official and competitive course for serious runners, while the 5K shares the route with an early turnaround, making both races accessible on a blacktop surface. The event has a hard closure time at 11:00 am, ensuring a well-organized and timely conclusion to the morning’s activities. In addition to race participation, the opportunity to purchase any remaining T-shirts post-gun time adds a souvenir element to the day’s memories.
