Set among the mountainous green terrain of northwest Arkansas – and just a short drive from Bentonville, the world headquarters of the retail giant Walmart – Fayetteville’s Walker Park host to the 13th annual Fayetteville Half Marathon this winter. The race takes runners through a sampling of the city’s 36-mile trail system for an event that will also feature a 10K, 5K and one-mile fun run & walk. Runners start the half marathon — as well as the other races in the event — in Walker Park just outside of downtown Fayetteville. When the race begins, runners first head north on the Frisco Trail before turning left on to the Tsa-La-Gi Trail near the mile 1 marker. They’ll continue on the Tsa-La-Gi trail until reaching the southern part of the University of Arkansas campus, home of the Razorbacks and the Baum-Walker baseball stadium. The course continues south and east along the Town Branch Trail with a brief intermission southward along the Cato Springs Trail. After returning to the Town Branch Trail; runners will head north toward Walker Park. Half marathoners will run this loop again to complete 13.1 miles. The half marathon has a time limit of 3.5 hours, or a 16-minute mile, which makes the event a good one for brisk walkers.
