The Grand Canyon Trail Half Marathon and 5k is entering its fifth year, and is a looping course that takes locals and visitors alike through the beautiful landscape of Kaibab National Forest. Near the spectacle that is the rim of the Grand Canyon, the Grand Canyon Trail Half Marathon is one of the most beautiful courses in the United States, located within the wilds of Kaibab National Forest along the Coconino Plateau. From tree-lined cliffs and historical railroad tracks to incredible wildlife sightings and views of the glorious Grand Canyon itself, this race event will be one that you’ll remember for quite some time.

Challenging and hilly. Starting on sidewalk nearby the Grand Canyon Visitng Center, this race quickly takes runners through a near 11.5 mile stretch along Fire Road of dirt trails comprising rugged rocks, soft dirt, and some challenging forest roads, finishing on a rolling paved mile on the Arizona Trail path. Challenging in and of itself, this race course also only provides three aid stations through out at miles 4, 8, and 11.5. Event hosts recommend all participants to come prepared to be self-sufficient, carrying anything they require to remain safe and fueled up. As for celebrations, many who complete the Grand Canyon Trail Half Marathon rave about the participant t-shirt and finisher’s medal, for it’s more of a cherished souvenir than an awarded accomplishment to most. Oh, and be sure to stop into the Beer Garden afterwards!
