The Half Naked Half Marathon, organized by the Anniston Runners Club, offers a unique start to the new year for runners looking to embrace the challenge with minimal frills but maximum spirit. Diverging from its traditional “just running” approach, this year introduces a celebratory twist: medal awards for the overall male and female half marathon winners and a special pink or blue beanie as a finishing gift for all half marathon finishers. Furthermore, the event steps up with chip timing, ensuring that participants’ efforts are officially recorded on this certified course. Unlike the half marathon, the Quarter Marathon maintains its ‘naked’ essence with no awards and hand timing, yet the first 131 registrants for either distance will receive a commemorative coffee mug. Emphasizing inclusivity, the event welcomes runners and walkers of all abilities, with no age restrictions, though minors require guardian consent. Safety and awareness are paramount, as the course remains open to traffic, and participants are advised to use earbuds in one ear only to stay alert. With strict prohibitions on non-official wheeled vehicles and pets (service animals require pre-race documentation), the event makes an exception for strollers, allowing parents to participate with infants, provided they start at the back. The race unfolds on a fully paved out-and-back course, promising a well-organized, enjoyable experience for the community, rewarding accomplishments with no age group distinctions but significant personal achievement acknowledgment.
