Set for its 17th annual running this spring, Oregon’s Vernonia Marathon & Half Marathon takes runners on a fast, flat and scenic course along the trails that wind along the rivers and creeks near the city here in the state’s northeastern corner.
Like in past years, the Vernonia Half features a point-to-point course that takes runners largely along the Banks-Vernonia State Trail.
This local rails-to-trails project has converted 21 miles of formerly used railroad into a tree-lined paved and gravel trail through Oregon’s picturesque woodlands for walkers, runners, bikers, hikers, horseback riders and inline skaters, as well as families bringing their children out in strollers.
