Filled with gently rolling hills and the scenic natural beauty of the city’s Lehigh River Parkway, the out-and-back course features mostly flat terrain over the city’s streets and park pathways along the river. Formerly known as the Lehigh Valley Half Marathon, the race is now titled the St. Luke’s Half Marathon, 5K, Fun Walk & Kids Run.
Closed to traffic for three hours, the race course takes runners over rolling hills and through a covered bridge on the picturesque Lehigh Parkway, with a few slight-to-moderate changes in elevation throughout the race (the highest point on the course tops out at 340 feet above sea level, while the lowest is about 250 feet).
The race also features plentiful music for participants, with 10 live bands stationed along the race route.
The event’s three races start separately beginning at 8:00 AM with the 5K run, 8:10 AM for the half marathon and 8:20 AM for the runners and walkers participating in the family fun walk.
All races share the same starting line, at the city’s William Allen High School on North 17th Street, and the half marathon finishes at the track stadium just a few blocks east of the high school.
