Sunday, April 2, 2023 • New Philadelphia, OH • Course Map

Several hundred runners and walkers come out each spring to take part in the Run For Home Half Marathon, Relay & Fun Run/Walk, which is sponsored by New Philadelphia’s Union Hospital and is run to benefit the local Tuscarawas Valley Habitat For Humanity chapter.

Scenic and largely fast and flat, with a few challenging hilly stretches thrown in as well as some bridge crossings over the Tuscarawas River that cuts through town, the out-and-back course for the race starts and finishes at Tuscora Park, just off North Broadway Street.

After participants exit the park through the arch gate, they follow a course made up of city streets and paved park paths, starting with long straightaway stretches along Ray Avenue and Union Avenue.

When the course reaches the intersection with Wooster Avenue, it heads left (northwest) over the river into the town of Dover, where the field’s runners and walkers will make their way up the aptly named Race Street and Tremont Street toward Dover City Park. The course makes a loop around the Dover park and then heads back southward along Tremont and McMillan Avenue, which then becomes North Crater Avenue.

There is a brief northeastward detour around East Front Street and Blacksnake Hill Road before meeting up again with Wooster Avenue and the bridge back over into New Philadelphia, where the field begins the final stretch toward the finish line.

The last few miles of the course unfold over East Iron Avenue, Boulevard Street and 3rd Street, with a quick turn onto Ross Avenue before heading back into Tuscora Park for the finish. Between the 11th and 12th miles, runners pass the event sponsor Union Hospital, and end the race at the park’s Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium.

Despite the cold mornings, organizers start the half-marathon and team relay at 7:30 AM.
