Maine > MAINEiacs Charities Half Marathon & 5K
Bangor, ME  •  Sunday, September 28, 2014  •  Course Map

Perhaps most famous as the home of horror and mystery author Stephen King, who famously added a wrought-iron fence with a spider and bat design after he and his family moved into the city's famed 1856-era William Arnold House, Bangor plays host on the last weekend of September to the MAINEiacs Charities Half Marathon, which makes its 4th annual running in 2014.

Last year's race saw just over 160 runners cross the finish line in both races combined (with just over 100 finishers in the half marathon alone). This year, the race is set to follow an out-and-back course that starts and finishes near the Holiday Inn Bangor just outside the city, near the intersection of Perry Road and Odlin Road.

From there, the race unfolds with turns on Perry Road, right onto Mecaw Road, and then right again onto Highway 202, which runners stay on for the next three miles. Once they reach about the mile 4 marker, the course turns right again, this time onto Coldbrook Road, which is followed by a left on Papermill Road, and then about a mile and a half later by a right turn onto Emerson Mill Road.

Runners follow Emerson Mill until they reach the half-way turnaround point, just before the underpass underneath Interstate 95. Then they make the turn and run the exact same route they've just run in reverse, all the way back to the finish line near the Holiday Inn Bangor.

Once they're back at the hotel, runners can take part in the finish line festivities, where overall awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers, as well as age group awards to the top three male and female finishers in 10-year age brackets, which begin at 18 and under and go all the way up to age 70 and above.

Proceeds from the race go to benefit MAINEiacs Charities, the charitable organization or the Maine Air National Guard, which provides support and assistance to people in need in the Bangor area.
